Realme 3 is the latest smartphone to get system-wide dark mode with their November update. The update also brings along the November Android security patch, and much more. The smartphone is receiving the update in a staged manner, and full rollout will be completed in a few days after no critical bugs are found. The changelog suggests the addition of Realme Laboratory, Google Digital Wellbeing, and updated battery interface display among other things. Realme 5 also got the dark mode support recently, alongside the October security patch.

Realme took to its forums to announce the rollout of the November Android security update for the Realme 3. The version number for the update is RMX1821EX_11.A.24, and we recommend downloading it as soon as it arrives. The size of the update for Realme 3 users is 2.04GB. Check for the update manually in Settings, and install it under a strong Wi-Fi connection and while the device is on a charge. The company has also made available a manual download link on its support page. Users can download it using the Simple Mode or Recovery Mode. You can download the latest update manually.

The changelog suggests system-wide dark mode, the addition of Google Digital Wellbeing, and Realme Laboratory. The update adds the ability to activate ‘Lockdown Mode' by long-pressing the power button, and it also can now display the data consumed by connected devices as well as offering customizable data consumption reminders. As mentioned, the Realme 3 and Realme 3i November update brings an updated charging animation, an updated battery interface display, a new option for notification dots for updates, and clone apps support for more third-party apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon, and Flipkart.

The Realme 3 and Realme 3i November update also optimizes lock screen clock widget design, a new date and weather widget, and an optimized smart assistant interface. The update brings a redesigned notification center style, the ability to swipe left or right to dismiss message notifications, and a new fast switch toggle between SIMs in the notification center. The latest update removes the reminder after hotspot has been enabled, adds a new option to swipe down on the home screen for global search or notification center, and removes the prompt when the device is rooted.

Realme 3 Features

The Realme 3 Pro is slated for release early in 2019.

We've all seen the Realme 3 before, though the name was different. Whether it was the Realme U1, the Realme 2 or even the Realme 2 Pro - it's the same all-plastic phone you know. But Realme keeps surprising us with some fabulous colors to distracts us from the otherwise recycled shell. And with the Realme 3's Dynamic Black and Radiant Blue paint job, we are not just distracted - you can color us dazzled. The Dynamic Black is something we've actually seen before on the Vivo V11 marketed as Starry Night. It's a very catchy gradient from black towards sprinkled dark blue and no matter how it's called, it's simply brilliant. Then there is the Radiant Blue, which is a bit more alien than the Dynamic Black. It mixes vibrant green and blues for one very chameleonic effect and it's mesmerizing to watch those hues change under a different light. The back, no matter the color option, is made of durable plastic with a glossy finish. Realme 3 uses a unibody design meaning the back actually wraps the whole phone all the way up to the screen. There is no standalone frame per se, though the curve on the sides is sharp enough to provide for some grip.

The dual-camera setup on the back for the first time on a Realme has a vertical alignment. The 13MP camera is top marked with the cool yellow ring, then comes the 2MP depth sensor, and the LED flash is at the bottom. The whole setup is humping just a little bit, but not enough to make the Realme 3 wobble. The fingerprint scanner is also at the back, always-on and very accurate as usual.

The Realme 3 looks a lot like the Realme U1 and the Realme 2 Pro at the front. It has included a 6.2" IPS LCD display with one small curvy notch for the 13MP selfie camera. But unlike the models we mentioned, the Realme 3 has a lower HD+ resolution like its Realme 2 predecessor. More about that coming in a bit. The earpiece is etched between the frame and the front glass, which is a Gorilla Glass 3 by the way. The Realme 3 has all the essentials on its sides. The outdated micro USB port, the loudspeaker, and the audio port are all at the bottom. The tri-slot is located on the left and it can take two nano-SIM and one microSD cards. The Realme 3 is as large as the Realme 2 at 156.1 x 75.6 x 8.3 mm and weighs around the same at 175g.For a device that cheap, Realme has once again outdone itself. It's unbelievable how the maker succeeds in securing both the cool screens and eye-catchy designs. And you should know the process of making this one piece of plastic so ravishing and glass-looking is neither an easy, nor a cheap job. So as far as the Realme 3 is concerned, it's probably one of the best-looking smartphones you can buy for this amount of cash. And yes, the Realme 3 is slippery and fingerprints do stick, but this comes with the glossy territory. The frame is sharper than on previous models, or as Realme likes to call it - narrower - which improves the grip. But if it's not your cup of tea, you can slap on the free case you get and have it all.

The Realme 3 has a 6.2" LCD screen at the front of HD+ resolution - that's the same size and pixels as the Realme 2. What's new is the smaller droplet-like notch, a departure from the iPhone X-like eyesore on the old model. The resolution stays the same at 720 x 1,520 pixels and so is the density of 271ppi - not the ideal sharpness, but still quite usable. These specs make for a 19:9 screen aspect ratio. The screen is protected with a Gorilla Glass 3 but there is also a factory-applied screen protector. Whether to keep it or not - that's up to you. The text is sharp enough though minor pixelization is visible here and there. The icons on the home-screen are somewhat blurry because of the low resolution, too. But while the screen isn't obviously sharp enough to compete with the best, it's sharp enough for this budget class.

The Realme 3's display has a maximum brightness of 385 nits - that's below the average even for this class but will do mostly fine in all but the brightest of days. The black levels turned out quite deep, though, so the Realme 3 screen scored an excellent contrast ratio of 1460:1.

For those following our tests closely - the lower brightness we could achieve on the Realme 3 is 1.8 nits, which is dim enough for comfortable use in the dark. The sunlight contrast number is far from ideal for the Realme 3 screen, but it still means the display is still usable outside when the brightness is set to maximum. The color rendering is average - the screen offers mostly accurate colors and we measured an average DeltaE of 5.3. The representation of the white color is way colder than it should be (DeltaE of 9.4).

If you opt for the Warm color saturation from Settings, the blue tinge is suppressed and the average DeltaE drops to 3.4 - an excellent result for the class.

The primary cameras of 16 Mp and 5 MP are capable of taking photos with a resolution of 4616 x 3464 pixels. Shooting modes include continuous shooting and HDR. Available settings include exposure compensation and ISO control. The selfie camera is 20 megapixels and has an LED flash. The image resolution is 4616 x 3464 pixels.

Chipset and Processor

The handset is equipped and powered by an Octa-core processor coupled with 4GB RAM with 64-bit architecture. The operating system is the Android 9.0 Pie. The graphical processor Mali-G72 MP3 GPU guarantee that graphical processing is smooth and fast. Its battery power is 4000 mAh and is the Li-Ion type. The internal memory of 64GB can be expanded to up to 256 GB.

  1. The Dual SIM phone has Nano-SIM slots that support 4G as well as VoLTE. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM radio
  2. A fingerprint scanner is available.
  3. Other sensors include light and proximity combined with the accelerometer and gyroscope.

Realme 3 Price in India

The lowest price of Realme 3 in India is Rs. 7,790. Realme 3 is also available on Amazon at Rs. 8,848. Prices updated on 13th November 2019

Finally, Realme 3

The Realme 3 is the successor to the Realme 2 and features an updated design unibody design, with a dewdrop notch. The display 6.2-inch still has an HD plus resolution which is a little low for this price segment but it produces good colors and is legible under sunlight. It also supports two Nano-SIM cards with Dual VoLTE and a separate slot for a microSD card. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, which delivers good app and gaming performance. We didn't notice any overheating issues either. ColorOS 6.0 is based on Android 9 Pie, which looks slick compared to previous offerings. The rear 13-megapixel camera sadly isn't a consistent performer and struggles in low-light. The new and latest Nightscape and Chroma Boost features do their job well. The selfie camera is also quite best. The 4230mAh battery did not fare too well in our battery loop test but does last a full day on one charge. The Realme 3 is a decent upgrade but at this price, we think you'd be better off with the Realme U1 or even the Redmi Note 7 by Xiaomi, for a bit more money.
